Early Childhood

Each child is seen as a gift from God where we seek to grow the whole child - heart, mind, and body.

The Pre-K and Kindergarten curriculum is research-based and reflects the best practices for the youngest learner. Coupled with a well-qualified team of early educators, students are able to gain confidence, skills, and the desire to become lifelong learners. Our goal is to see the whole child and offer systematic support in all areas of development. Students begin their educational journey with a strong foundation at Southwest Christian School.

Bible

Dig-In Bible curriculum by Group publishing is used in our early childhood classrooms. Dig-In helps guide students to new discoveries about God, creating a firm and comprehensive foundation of faith to last a lifetime. Pre-K 3-year-olds explore “The Bible In A Year” program. Pre-K 4-year-olds take a deeper look into the bible with the “Foundations of Faith” program. The Bible is integrated across the curriculum and daily schedule. All students also participate in a weekly, age-appropriate chapel experience.

PreK On My Way

PreK On My Way by Scholastic and in partnership with the Yale Child Study Center and the Children’s Learning Institute (CLI) at the University of Texas Health Science Center, is a comprehensive early childhood program that uses authentic books and purposeful play to ensure all children develop the foundational skills they need for a lifelong love of learning. Foundational domains include language, literacy, math, science, social studies, technology, arts, physical development, social and emotional development, executive function, motivation, and creativity.

Phonics

A-Z Mat Man and Me phonics supplement by Learning Without Tears brings the ABCs to life with letter books while building early literacy skills. Each of the illustrated 16-page letter books introduces a letter of the alphabet and emphasizes their associated sound through captivating visual stories. This research-based approach captures children’s imaginations while helping them develop social-emotional skills and exposure to our world's diverse cultures.

Handwriting

Handwriting Without Tears curriculum involves multisensory activities and manipulatives that appeal to all learning styles and provide a hands-on approach to handwriting.
